Years ago, my husband's grandmother's cousin's family built a rustic cabin in the middle of what is now Arapaho Forest. Since then, all of the land has been declared National Forest and no further development is allowed to take place. This offers a nice quiet retreat for members of his extended family, and we often gather there for family functions and the like. The back porch overlooks Caribou Valley, once a bustling mining settlement, now just an old ghost town.
